Together the doctors at the Allergy & Asthma Center have over 38 years of experience treating allergic and immunologic disorders.

Dr. Paul Mauriello has practiced allergy and immunology in Hagerstown, MD since 1983. He received his M.D. from Albany Medical College. He completed a flexible internship at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut and a pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut. He completed his Allergy/Immunology training at State University in Buffalo, NY. He is board certified in pediatrics and in adult pediatric allergy. He is licensed in Maryland and Pennsylvania and is on staff at Washington county Health Center and Chambersburg Hospital. He is a fellow of both the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

 

Dr. Nicholas Orfan has practiced allergy and immunology in Hagerstown, MD since 1996. Prior to that, he served as attending physician in allergy and immunology at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY from 1991-1996 where he was assistant professor of clinical medicine , Columbia University. Currently, he is an associate clinical professor of medicine at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. He received his M.D. from Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital in Boston, MA. He completed his allergy/immunology training at Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill. He is a fellow of both the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, he has served on the editorial board of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and is a member of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Demetrios Theodoropoulos is board certified in allergy-immunology, medical genetics and pediatrics and board eligible in clinical and laboratory immunology. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and holds postgraduate science degrees from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and the University of Crete, Greece. He received his MD from the University of Ioannina, Greece and completed his residency in pediatrics at the New York Hospital-Flushing Hospital Medical Center. He trained in adult and pediatric allergy-immunology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He was assistant professor of pediatrics and medicine at the Case Western Reserve School of MediCine and the University of Wisconsin Medical School, and served as attendtng physcician in allergy and immunology at the University Hospitals of Cleveland and the St. Joseph’s Hospital-Mansfield Clinic. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a founding fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics.

Kathy Sampson, R.N. has 15 years of clinical nursing experience treating allergy and asthma patients. She has an MA certificate from Hagerstown Community College and her registered nursing degree from Shepherd University. She is board certified in Maryland and West Virginia. Kathy has been nurse manager of our allergy and asthma center since 1995. She has spearheaded patient education activities including completing multiple asthma educators courses and allied health professional courses sponsored by the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology. She has extensive experience in community education and has lectured for school nurses, healthcare office staff and daycare providers regarding assessment and treatment of allergy and asthma conditions.
